Victoria Points Calculator 2026–27 (VPT) for 190 & 491

This free Victoria points calculator estimates your Victorian Points Test (VPT) total for a 2026–27 Victorian subclass 190 or 491 nomination. Victoria ranks every Registration of Interest (ROI) out of 950 points across seven factors. There is no fixed pass mark: in each invitation round, the highest totals are invited.

Important: points values can change. This calculator uses the Victorian Points Test published by Live in Melbourne for the 2026–27 program (last checked against the official page on 16 October 2026). The Victorian Government may update the points, priority occupations or invitation process at any time.

Always confirm on the official Live in Melbourne Victorian Points Test page before you submit an ROI. Your result is an estimate and general information only, not migration advice.

Answer the 7 factors. Your total updates as you go.

Use your age on the day you lodge your ROI. Ages 20 to 29 score the maximum 300.

Use the level you can prove with a valid test, as claimed in your SkillSelect EOI. PTE, TOEFL iBT, CAE and OET equivalents also count.

Count only experience in your nominated occupation, not related work. The bands follow the official table, which lists 6–7 years and then “more than 8 years”. If you have exactly 8 years, check the official page.

Most degree-level professional occupations are skill level 1, and most trades are skill level 3. Check your occupation on the Home Affairs skilled occupation list. Only skill level 1 scores points.

You score the 50 points only if all three conditions are met. Single applicants and those with an Australian partner score 0 for this factor.

Only current skilled employment in Victoria counts. Victoria calculates earnings using its own Annual Earnings Estimation guide, which may differ from your contract salary.

Priority occupations add no points, but these ROIs are also ranked within their own industry group.

How the Victorian Points Test works

The Victorian Skilled Visa Nomination Program uses the Victorian Points Test (VPT) to rank every Registration of Interest for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). Your VPT total is built from information in your SkillSelect Expression of Interest and your Victorian ROI. ROIs are ranked from highest to lowest.

The VPT favours younger, highly qualified applicants with strong English. Age alone is worth up to 300 of the 950 points, and English up to 200.

The VPT is not the same as the federal SkillSelect points test. You still need at least 65 points on the federal test to lodge an EOI. Use our Australia PR points calculator to check that score for the 189, 190 and 491.

Two ways to be invited

  1. Most competitive: in each invitation round, ROIs with the highest VPT totals across all eligible occupations in the pool are invited.
  2. Priority industry: ROIs in a 2026–27 priority occupation are also ranked within their own industry or subgroup, and the highest totals in each group are invited.

Victoria does not publish cut-off scores and cannot tell you your chances or how you compare to other applicants. It also does not prioritise personal circumstances such as age or an expiring visa.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Victorian Points Test (VPT)?

The Victorian Points Test is the scoring system Victoria uses to rank Registrations of Interest for subclass 190 and 491 nomination. It scores seven factors (age, English, experience, education, occupation skill level, partner's skill and Victorian skilled earnings) to a maximum of 950 points. ROIs with the highest totals are invited.

What VPT score do I need for a Victorian 190 or 491 invitation?

There is no fixed pass mark. In each invitation round Victoria invites the ROIs with the highest VPT totals in the pool at that time, so the score needed depends on who else is in the pool. Victoria does not publish cut-offs or tell applicants their chances.

Is the VPT the same as the SkillSelect points test?

No. The federal SkillSelect points test decides whether you are eligible (you need at least 65 points), while the VPT ranks eligible ROIs against each other for Victorian nomination. You need to meet both the federal visa requirements and Victoria's nomination requirements.

How do I get the 50 partner points in the VPT?

You score 50 points only if all three conditions are met: you claimed 10 Partner Skills points in your SkillSelect EOI, your partner is included in your state nominated visa application, and your partner's occupation is a current Victorian priority industry occupation. Otherwise this factor scores 0, including for single applicants and those with an Australian partner.

Do earnings outside Victoria count for VPT points?

No. Only annual earnings from current skilled employment in Victoria score points, starting at 8 points for $80,000 and rising to 150 points at $170,000 and over. Victoria calculates earnings using its Annual Earnings Estimation guide, which may differ from your contract salary.

Does a priority occupation improve my chances?

A priority occupation adds no VPT points, but your ROI is also ranked within its priority industry or subgroup, and the highest totals in each group are invited. This can help applicants whose total is not high enough in the most competitive channel, but an invitation is never guaranteed.

How accurate is this Victoria points calculator?

The calculator uses the 2026–27 points published by Live in Melbourne, last checked on 16 October 2026. Victoria can change the points or priority occupations at any time, so always confirm on the official Live in Melbourne page before submitting an ROI. Your result is an estimate, not migration advice.
